TEXT OF MR. BILL GATES’ SPEECH TO THE NIGERIAN NATIONAL ECONOMIC COUNCIL, NEC ON MARCH 22, 2018

March 24, 2018

Going by his obviously painstaking order of protocol, the sheer use of clear, unambiguous data/statistics and the manner he put the 2,903 words which formed his 10-page speech to the Nigerian National Economic Council, it is clear Mr. Bill Gates waited for that day to come.
He started with
“Our Foundation’s biggest office in Africa is here. We have committed over $1.6billion in Nigeria so far. And we plan to increase our commitment. We have strong relationships with the Federal Government, state governments, businesses, NGOs and civil society organisations. We are eager to support you as you work to make Nigeria a global economic powerhouse that provides opportunity for all citizens – as you strive to fulfil this country’s immense promise.”
And ended with
“Nigerians are known around the world for their big dreams and big ambitions. Together with the Dangote Foundation, we will be here to help you achieve your dreams and ambitions. You have the support of the international Community. The Nigerian private sector will continue to invest. We are eager to help, but we know we cannot lead. You must lead”

In between he raised a dozen issues nine of which are very critical.

No doubt, they all heard him.

How an economy in which each of 109 Senators spends N13.5m in a month, just by explaining what it is spent on, will respond to the speech is waiting to be seen.

The speech is available here.
