80 GBOSAS FOR MAMA ACADEMY

May 6, 2021

Engr. (Mrs.)  Joanna Olutunmbi Maduka is a rare personality, noted for her distinguished and unique accomplishments and track record.

It is a testament of facts that she is the first to attain several feats among the female gender of Nigerian engineers.

With a B.Sc. in applied physics in 1965, she went on to pass the Graduateship Examination of the IEE (UK) in 1966 and earned an M.Sc. (Engineering) degree from Trinity College, Dublin in 1969.

She taught electronics briefly at the University of Ife (now OAU), worked in television, moved to engineering consultancy in 1970 and became a partner of Leccom Associates, in 1975.

She founded the Association of Professional Women  Engineers in Nigeria, APWEN; and Friends of the Environment (FOTE); was appointed Chairperson of Better life for rural women; was foundation Board member of the International Network of Women in Engineering and Science (INWES) and now a member of its Board of Trustees. She served on boards of several polytechnics; was first female Vice President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers; and First Female President of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering.

In 2008, she was conferred with the national honour: Member of the Federal Republic, MFR.

Today, MAMA ACADEMY, the sobrique given to her by many at the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, is 80 years old.

Please make some joyful noise to celebrate her, her attainments, and God’s protection over her.
