As one of the faithfuls of the 2014/2015 misadventure, the short essay qualifies for my archives. It is also part of my story, told by my brother from another mother.

Except that I teed-off from the herd when, within six months into the journey that turned out to be heading for this ‘PENTASCOPE’, all that stared me in the face was a fatally lost hope.

DISROBING FROM BORROWED GARB

“Back in 2014/2015 when grown men like myself went public on social media to render our support for the candidacy of Buhari after 3 unsuccessful attempts (I never supported him for once prior to this), I doubt if most of us harbored any ill feelings towards the incumbent. I for one really felt that we were drifting unchecked towards misrule and anarchy while those that then held sway were not really very bothered about our fate, especially with myself being from the Middlebelt which was then coming under a new type of insurgency, the so called Fulani herdsmen attacks that received firm silence from the government of GEJ.

To cut the story short, we thronged around Buhari, we hounded out Goodluck and sat down to see “how government is run”!……….. six months was enough to bring unease, but I tarried, hopeful that these were but birth pains that will usher in a better tomorrow (for we mostly believed that oga was sitting on the drawing board trying to architecture our collective future, so “do not disturb”)…….. a year gone, it was obvious that we were in hot peppered soup. Even I, a hardcore believer started hearing voices in my head……… two years gone, the realization that our “messiah” was robed in borrowed garb sank fully. Buhari was out of his depth………for 12 years he aggressively demanded power with no idea what to do with a nation aside continue the civil war we had gone past and have to a great extent already built a nation……………. he was taking us back to 1966!

In effect, Buhari is so incompetent to the point of pain, that one will be justified to call it criminal. Add to the fact that his vision for a nation is simply tunneled to a small band of tribesmen and cronies, then you have a man whose “virtues” as a man of integrity, a former general that leads from the front, an upright lover of the poor are all borrowed garb.

Interestingly, this week Buhari went public for the second time to tell us “I have done my best”. In effect, the president has publicly disrobed himself of the very borrowed clothes we covered him with in 2015. Today the man has taken an honest stand to tell Nigerians that “I am incompetent, do not expect better”!

Today, I join baba Buhari to tell my fellow Nigerians, especially compatriots who have been brutally killed, raped, displaced or rendered homeless & hopeless in the land of their fathers, our brave brave military that needed not have faced the casualties they endure day and night, that I acknowledge the folly of believing in a Buhari in 2015, it was a very poor judgement, and no incompetence of GEJ in 2015 warranted such a bad move.

In Nigeria, it is even folly believing in any man as a leader, so we must learn to be circumspect going forwards into 2023………we must learn to find men who respect democratic systems and respect the rule of law. Men who listen to reason and do not refrain to blames. Tyrants are insecure cowards who have a very fragile ego with a need to have a high opinion of their abilities and alters built to their vanities……..Buhari fits that bill today.

In tyranny he went after the judiciary. In tyranny he went after legislators for opposing him. In tyranny he has built a perfect legislature of yes beggars. In tyranny men that speak against his romance with incompetence and terrorism are invited into the chambers for questioning.

We must learn not to use borrowed robes going forward

We must disrobe from borrowed garbs today

No man is our messiah going forward”
