AKWA IBOM CHARTS THE SMART PATH TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT – Emmanuel Ekuwem

April 18, 2018

I accompanied President of ATCON, Olusola Teniola, on a courtesy visit to SSG Akwa Ibom State, Emma Ekuwem, a former President of ATCON.

Mr Olusola Teniola
Today’s NEC Courtesy visit to you is unique in that it is to one of us who has been part and parcel of supporting the creation of an enabling environment for the continuous and profitable existence of telecom companies in Nigeria. We recall that among some of the things you pursued with all your energy when you were the President of ATCON include: SIM card registration; Number portability and a call to redesign the curriculum being used in our tertiary institution for engineers. Once again, the Association is fully aware that your appointment is based on your extraordinary pedigree as a thorough bred technocrat, professional and a promoter of human relations with sterling leadership quality, we are confident that you are more than equal to the task ahead.
Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem:
The focus of the government of Akwa Ibom is to have smart classrooms, smart cities and the state is currently working on electrification projects called Ibom Power and seven local governments are expected to enjoy Portable Power Supply in no distant time. The government of the state is also working earnestly to lift boys and girls from the street by ensuring that they have jobs so that they can have a sense of accomplishment as well as contribute their quota to the development of the state.

Prof Nse Udo Essien, Commissioner for Science and Technology added that the state has built a two-story block innovation hub which houses twenty six companies so far. There is an e-Library in Uyo and ten computer laboratories are under construction in various parts of the State. All these are geared towards ‘migrating the State from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy that can leap frog us’.
