Sundar Pichai, the fellow who sits atop Google LLC today went on a journey of technological sermonising that ended really nowhere when the US House Committee on Judiciary asked him to explain how an image googlesearch for the word ‘Idiot’ ends in ‘Trump’.
An attempt by me to argue that it may not specifically refer to Donald Trump is quickly dismissed because what is published is actually the picture of POTUS.
Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren said ‘I just did that’ and apparently she got it. So I also did it. And I got it. You too can do it: type the word ‘idiot’ into google and press image. What do you get? Not one ugly loafer somewhere in the gutter but ………….(now you can tell me who)
And how did Sundar explain that? Hear him:
“We provide search today for any time you type in a keyword. We, as Google, have gone out and crawled and stored copies of billions of their pages in our index, and we take the keyword and match it against the pages and rank them based on over 200 signals. Things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it. And based on that, you know, at any given time, we try to find the best results for that query,” and bla bla bla
