The Nigerian Academy of Engineering has announced it would inaugurate its 10th President and induct 12 new Fellows on June 21 at the University of Lagos.
The new President, Engr Prof Fola Lasisi is a professor of structural engineering and two times pioneer Vice-Chancellor at both University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and Crescent University, Abeokuta. He takes over from Engr Mrs Joana Maduka, unarguably Nigeria’s first woman engineer.
The Nigerian Academy of Engineering is one of Nigeria’s honorific organisations whose choice of membership is restricted to those who have reached the pinnacle of their professions and whose invitation to Fellowship has been endorsed by all Fellows and approved by the Council of the Academy.
Academies are the highest bus stops at which governments take input into developmental policies.
To qualify for election into the FELLOWSHIP of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, an ENGINEER, who must have reached the peak of his professional career be it in academics, business or government, must be nominated by at least 3 Fellows and invited by the Academy. The Engineer must be a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers or its recognised equivalent. His resume is screened for INTEGRITY and QUALITY OF HIS WORKS and assessed by EACH of ALL THE FELLOWS of the Academy. The highest scorers resulting from such assessment will be nominated to Council of the Academy for fellowship consideration subject to limitation of available vacancies to be filled.
