Nigerian Academy of Engineering gets CAETS’ Endorsement as Member

The International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS), at its Council meeting of today, June 27, 2019 admitted the Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAEng) into its fold as the First Academy of Engineering in Africa outside of South Africa to be so admitted.

A few weeks ago, a CAETS delegation made a visitation to the Secretariat of the Nigerian Academy during which the leader of the delegation, Acad. Engr. Lucio Caceras, hinted in a valedictory speech that his delegation had looked at several documents of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering and “it would be an honour for CAETS to have the NAEng as a Member”.

CAETS) is an organization of national engineering and technological sciences academies. Its primary mission is to advise governments and international organizations on technical and policy issues, to improve the understanding of engineering and technology by the public, to offer a forum for discussion and communication, to support cooperation, and to improve education and practice of Engineering. It provides an international forum for discussion and communication of engineering and technological issues of common concern.

CAETS was founded in 1978 by five Academies of Engineering, namely: the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering; the Royal Academy of Engineering; the Mexican National Academy of Engineering; the US National Academy of Engineering; and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.

President of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering Prof Fola Lasisi who is leading a delegation of four to the on-going Annual Meeting and Conference wired a message to Fellows of the Academy a few hours ago to confirm the admission.

  • This message is ressuring and uplifting. It may however be instructive to note that most of the members of CAETS belong to the first world and bring something to the table of engineering and technological development and production. What does Nigeria bring to that table
