This was contained in an update which Mr. Oluwalana Ajayi, Executive Head of the PAADC 5.0 planning committee, gave to the Annual General Meeting of the University of Lagos Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association, UNILAGFEAA, during the week.

He mentioned, among others, the example of TEAM PREST, winners of the second edition – PAADC 2.0, which developed a solution for preserving tomatoes for 2 years and found a much cheaper way of converting tomatoes into paste. That team has since proceeded to become one of the Top 10 at the Pitch Nigeria by Sterling Bank, Top 3 at one of Start-up Desk’s competition, and Semi-finalists at GistTech-I competition. They also earned several other recognitions across the continent carrying along with them the mentorship of PAADC Partners.

He also reported that PAADC has grown and established itself in 83 tertiary institutions across the country, having a dedicated campus representative in 75 of them.

Oluwalana and his team have made “Breaking Barriers to Innovation” the theme of their edition of PAADC and they are already up to hosting the Grand Finale of this 5th edition on November 27, 2021. So far, 400 applications from students in 43 tertiary institutions across the country, forming 93 teams are being reviewed for various sector solutions including agriculture, healthcare, education, environment sustainability and essential services.

Lagos State Government and some private sector firms which promote innovation are Partners of the PAADC Initiative. They include Geoplex Drilling Technologies, Kawai Technologies, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, Platform Capital, Sahara Energy Group, Verakki Business Solutions, and Verod Capital Management.
