Still OUR THING – NAIJASWAG

October 7, 2019

My country’s Vice-President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo was, in my last post, “An EVENING to SHARE” talking of the NAIJASWAG, a roundly hailed video clip (well…a few wailers also did but, as always, with a BUT). Then this went viral….

And now the real SWAG, …. NAIJASWAG gangan….

The rest is the story.

Israel Mobolaji ADESANYA, born 22 July 1989, in Lagos is a Nigerian-New Zealander professional mixed martial artist, kickboxer, and boxer. As a mixed martial artist, he is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the current UFC Middleweight Champion. In kickboxing, he is the former Glory middleweight contender winner and King in the Ring two-time cruiserweight and heavyweight champion, which is the most titles in King in the Ring history. He is currently #14 in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.

He attended Chrisland School, Opebi, and enrolled in the school’s Taekwondo club for a brief time until he was removed by his mother due to an arm injury.

Because Israel’s parents wanted him to get a well-recognized higher education, he moved to Rotorua, New Zealand at age 10 and attended Rotorua Boys’ High School. As for the difference in education, Israel noticed right away his schooling in Nigeria was miles ahead from his new classmates. At the age of 18, he started training in kickboxing after being inspired by the Muay Thai film Ong-Bak. He went on to amass an amateur kickboxing record of 32-0 before moving to and fighting in China.

At the age of 21, Israel moved to Auckland, New Zealand, and began training under Eugene Bareman at City Kickboxing, with other established fighters such as Kai Kara-France and Dan Hooker.
