A few days ago there was this announcement that Microsoft was buying up Github. For how much? Let’s keep that until we’ve discussed the real issues.
My take is that the craze of buying up things only to destroy them is making technology ‘highheads’ look like the objective is to destroy this present world and create a new one, albeit while everybody concerned is kept happy. Will all of us follow them to the new one they will create? Or, would we have gone with the one they destroyed?
Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s big boss, whose middle name I call ‘Born-to-Buy’, said along with the announcement that “We recognise the community responsibility we take on with this agreement and will do our best work to empower every developer to build, innovate and solve the world’s most pressing challenge”.
Is that so? To believe just that is to believe anything. Take a review of earlier purchases and then reach your own conclusions. Sometimes you just wonder what these guys want with these acquisitions. And the figures are heading for heavens.
