He was born on 17 August 1941, in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria.
From 1957 to 1962 he was educated at the Government College, Bida, Niger state, Nigeria
He joined the Nigerian Army on 10 December 1962, and rose through the ranks to becoming a General in 1987. He participated in military coups and became president in 1985.
With Nigeria’s oil revenue, He created the Federal Environmental Protection Agency in 1985. He created eleven state governments and several local government councils. He had the Toja Bridge in Kebbi constructed. He also created the Jibia Water Treatment Plant and the Challawa Cenga Dam in Kano. In 1992, he constituted the Oil Mineral Producing Area Development Commission. He also increased the share of oil royalties and rents to state of origin from 1.5 to 3 percent.
On 12 December 1991, He relocated the seat of the federal government from Lagos to Abuja. The killing by a letter bomb of Dele Giwa, a magazine editor critical of his administration, at his Lagos home in 1986 was allegedly attributed to him and remains a controversial incident to this day.
He along with two other Generals, defied summonses to appear before the Oputa panel to answer allegations of rights abuses.
He was married to a glamorous woman who died from complications of ovarian cancer on 27 December 2009
On June 12 1993, a presidential election was held, but no results were ever announced, because He annulled the elections. It was however unofficially announced in some states that Abiola had won 19 of the 30 states.

He is a Nigerian politician who was Senator for the Orlu Senatorial constituency in Imo State from October 1983.
A multi-millionaire investment mogul, was born in Oguta, Imo State on 2 November 1938 to a prominent Oguta family. He is the Ogbuagu, Osuiji, Damanze Oyimba of Oguta. His second wife is the sister of Hajia Asabe Yar’Adua, wife of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, who was brother of President Umaru Yar’Adua.

He attended Bishop Shanahan College, Orlu and Holy Ghost College, Owerri, and then got a scholarship from the Nigerian Ports Authority in 1958 to study marine engineering in England. By 1960 he was selling life insurance to black immigrants in Britain. He met Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana that year and started to work for Nkrumah in public relations. He bought his first Rolls Royce a year later. After the fall of Nkrumah in 1966 he lost influence in Ghana.
He was elected Senator for the Imo Orlu constituency 1999 and was re-elected in 2003. On election matters, he more than once, boasted that he could never loose an election because, according to him, “what it takes to win is money”. He was known to have said “If it is money, I will outspend him, Dollar for Dollar, Naira for Naira, Okporoko for Okporoko” In November 2002, Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim indefinitely suspended him due to an allegation of a N22 million fraud. He was said to be planning an impeachment motion against Anyim.
In April 2006, the Orlu People’s Consultative Assembly, sponsored by the governor of Imo state Achike Udenwa, staged what it called “One million March” to drum support for his recall from the Senate. In the December 2006 PDP primaries for the 2007 Senatorial candidates, he was defeated by Osita Izunaso
He was a prominent supporter of the Association for a Better Nigeria, which backed Genius 1. Using the ABN platform he campaigned for, and dubiously succeeded in the annulment of the fairest and freest presidential election in the history of Nigeria. He continued further his mission to legitimize the dictatorship of maximum ruler, General Sani Abacha, which was resolutely resisted by the Nigerian people and the will of God.
