UNILAG Alumni Association Commissions A GREEN PARK at LUTH

It was a welcome break from the terrifying and somber mood across the globe over the deadly attack of the COVID19.

The promise made by the national body of the Unilag Alumni Association during the administration of our immediate past President, Olor’ogun Dr Sunny Kuku, OFR, FAS, to the College of Medicine, was made good yesterday.

The project which is a green park renovated and beautified to give room for leisure and recreational activities for the students, was commissioned by the National President, World-wide, Dr John Momoh, ably represented by the 1st National Vice president, Dr Fassy Yusuf.

The project which was under the supervision of project committee of NEC, and led by Prof. Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, is a expanse of land designed in a modern way but with green revolution in mind to fit climate change.

In his address, the President said the purpose for the park, which is first and foremost to give the students a place they can unwind socially is also to help balance the rigours of studies and for relaxation as required within an educational environment.
He added that it is also to remind the College of Medicine know that they are an integral part of the system so that they do not feel left out, as development will run concurrently on both the main campus and on Idi -Araba campus.

He thanked and commended the efforts of the project committee and particularly Prof Ibidapo Obe for making sure this came to reality.

In his own address, the Vice Chancellor University of Lagos, ably represented by Dep. Vice Chancellor, Academics and Research, Prof. Wole Familoni, not only thanked the Alumni but also reiterated that the park is an evidence that the College has never been left alone. He continued by saying that as its Alumni had been commendably up and doing, the National Alumni body had risen to the occasion at a good time.

He called for more assistance in infrastructure maintenance as there are still more that is needed to be done.

The Provost Prof. F.E.A. Lesi also in his address , expressed his profound gratitude to the Alumni and particularly pointed out that the painting of the buildings around the park were an extra mile gesture he considers as magnanimous by the Alumni.

The Painted buildings are the Departments of Radiation Biology, Radiotherapy and Radiodiagnosis, Faculty of Clinical Sciences and Department of Medicine.

The park was declared open by The National President , (world wide), Dr John Momoh, OON, assisted by the Vice Chancellor and the Provost amidst cheers from the small crowd who followed social distancing rules all wearing masks in line with the COVID19 regulations.

Attendees at the event included Prof. Albert Ebuehi, Deputy Provost and some members of the College of Medicine community as well as some members of National Executive Committee of the Alumni Association who are members of the project committee.

Vote of thanks and closing remarks were made by the Vice Chairman, CMUL Alumni chapter, Dr. Donna Umesi.
