VICTORY for NIGERIAN YOUTHS

July 16, 2022

The ECOWAS Court delivered judgement two days ago on the #TwitterBan case and declared the suspension by the Nigerian government unlawful.

The Court also ruled the action inconsistent with the African Charter and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

This is victory for the organisations and individuals who filed this lawsuit, and for Nigerian citizens who were denied access. It’s also victory for everyone fighting for #digitalrights in Africa and beyond.

I am aware that Nigerian officials did everything to win or get this case thrown out. And having lost the case you expect them to say the entire process is an academic excercise. Balderdash, of course.

I regard this judgement as CELEBRATION of my 73rd BIRTHDAY, which that judgement day was, and because I got a pledge from my ‘Gbenga Sesan’s Paradigm Initiative, at the time of the ban, that it would actively participate to pursue the matter to all levels of arbitration.

The point here is that our youths have started to take responsibility to challenge all unlawful acts of government for the country to grow and develop. INEC has just announced that 73 percent of registered voters for 2023 elections are youths. For me, that is victory in its embryo.

CONGRATULATIONS to NIGERIAN CITIZENS.
